Day of Archaeology 2016

The Sustainable Archaeology lab has submitted a piece detailing 135 years in the life of Ontario Archaeology to the Day of Archaeology community. Take a time trip beginning with the early formal archaeology and its avocational or ‘collector’ foundations and parallels in the Province

Jul 29, 2016

Take a time trip beginning with the early formal archaeology and its avocational or ‘collector’ foundations and parallels in the Province, through the classic works of the 1950s and the heyday 1960s and 1970s, down through the development of legislation, great syntheses and compilations. Shortly thereafter, we mark the process of standardisation in the practice of Consultant Archaeology in Ontario, note the opening of the Sustainable Archaeology repositories and, most recently, review the brand new Provincial statement on heritage, The Ontario Culture Strategy.

Follow this timeline of archaeological endeavour and adventure in Ontario.  More exciting projects and recoveries (and field apparel) to come!
