Introducing CRESS Fellow - Khuong Truong
Currently enrolled as a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Economics, Khuong’s research interests are in labour economics, applied econometrics, and relevant public policy, with an emphasis on immigration. He currently studies the proficiency in literacy and numeracy of refugees in comparison to other immigration categories, with a focus on those who arrived as children, and their impacts on earnings gaps between immigrants and Canadian-born. His research also addresses how age at immigration affects the evolution of skills and differences in skills among immigration classes. Khuong says that his research “informs policymakers about the integration of different immigrant classes with an emphasis on those admitted as refugees.”

Through his experience as a fellow, Khuong hopes to grow as a more rounded researcher and be able to communicate his research to a broader community. He is supervised by Dr. Arthur Sweetman.
